Piñatex and AppleSkin both sought to create alternatives to vegan leather and animal leathers, using fruit to crate a plastic free non-woven textiles that could maintain a low environmental footprint throughout its life cycle.

Piñatex is not a vegan leather; instead, it is a plant based product derived from pineapples leaves.

Is AppleSkin Vegan Leather?

AppleSkin is bio-based material made using the leftover pomace and peel from the fruit juice and compote industry.

Is Piñatex Biodegradable?

Piñatex substrate is made of natural fibers and polylactic acid fibers, which is 100% biodegradable. The coating is not biodegradable; instead, it is sustainably produced with a bio-based coating in the works. Pinatex is 80% biodegradable through proper disposal.

Is AppleSkin Biodegradable?

AppleSkin 50% fossil-fuel derived, being a synthetic material. AppleSkin is generally considered a more sustainable alternative than animal and synthetic leather, a biodegradable product.

Is Piñatex Waterproof?

Our premiere design's original Piñatex material is water-resistant, making it a repellent to rain but not waterproof.

Is AppleSkin Waterproof?
